Suruli Falls

Its been a long time since i wrote a Blog....after thinking for a sometime, i thought it would be better, if i can share some of my recent weekend travels...first in the series is Suruli Falls.

Suruli Falls is located at Theni district in tamilnadu, some 8 to 10 Kms from Kambam. The route from Madurai to Theni is scenic. With lush green fields and running streams.

Kite Runner

This is one of the latest books i read...seen a lot of reviews and saw a lots displayed at Landmark and other book stores...so finally decided to get one...

What a story...a perfect fit for a Hindi Movie...2 close friends (One son of the land lord and other son of their servant) in Afghanistan get separated due to differences of opinion. Later the former with his dad Flees to US in the wake of war in their country.

20 years later, he gets a call from one of his dad's friend asking him to come to Pakistan. He goes there to meet him, where he finds that his close friend is infact is brother (his father had an affair with the servant's wife :)), his friend cum brother along with his wife have been shot dead by the Taliban and they have taken their son with him...

The end is about the hero plight to save the boy from the Taliban clutches...felt like seeing a typical; Hindi movie...if anyone has the patience to read this, please go ahead...

My Recent Books - The Last Mughal

A wonderful and vivid description of the sepony mutiny of 1857 and the plight of delhi residents.

Dalrymple has here written an account of the Indian mutiny such as we have never had before, of the events leading up to it and of its aftermath, seen through the prism of the last emperor's life.

A must read for history lovers!!!

Refreshing Outing

Team Outing - March 9th....Venue - Mammalla Beach resort (You find many of these resorts on your drive down the ECR and these are good weekend getaways...)

With many last minute drop outs we started with a team of 33 (Lucky i guess)...The bus ride to the resort was good (not the bus) and brought in light the dancing talent of many including me....

We had some good games sessions..followed by dive in to the sea and a game of Indian rugby :) and Monkey Football...

Look who is playing ...ME!!!!

THE GANG...MOBSTERS....

How can a trip to a resort end without getting in to the pool...i tried learning swimming with a Lorry tube...but my hopes were shattered when a kid did a dive in to the pool...i still have a long way to go :(

NANDI TRIP.....

What began as a calm journey turned out be an adventrous and memorable trip. So much happened in that two day trip that it would be better i narrate it like a film.

Scene 1 (Saturday 27th May 2.00PM)

There wr 13 of us and we set out on 7 bikes from Bangalore to Nandi Hills. Climate was pleasant... thank god!!! if it had not been Bangalore, i would have become like the guys in the hip hop songs.

Scene 2 - The great fall...

Once on the highways ours bikes started blazing and we were riding at around 100KMPH with ease, and suddenly the tires screached - reason one of the bikes had a flat tire and the pillion rider suffered bruises due to the fall. The whole scene was like that of an action movie, with all the bikes braking suddenly. thankfully they had a miraculous escape, since a lorry coming behind them too stopped inches away from the bike.

Scene 3 - rain.. rain.. go... away...

We relaxed till the tyres were fixed and again set out on our journey to the hills. There was some one waiting to welcome us - guess who??? Mr. Rain. It was pouring down so heavily that we decided to stop our journey and stay at the foothills. Fortunately, nature showed some courtesy on us - it stopped raining.

Scene 4 - Dark Sky and Foggy weather

The engines started roaring again as our 15KM trek up the hill began at 8 in the night. There were no lights and it was pitch black, added to every thing was the fog around hampering our vision. But, nothing stoped the relentless riders and journey towards the destiny continued. I should appreciate our guts to drive in 80 up the hill with no one knowing the route or aware of where the road would turn.

Scene 5 - The Walk

Our ride came to a halt when we were stopped by a so called patrol guy (He didnt look like one. i was very sure that he would wet his pants if he were to hear some thing strange in the dark). We parked our bikes and walked through the dense trees and bushes in the dark.Thankfully a local came by with a torch and guided us in the dark for four Kms. It was a bit scary - u dont know when u might fall.

We were walking like some oldies, watching each step. When walked down the hill the next morning evryone were surprised cuz, they say the place is frequented by lots of snake and one side of the road led to a steep side of the hill. I felt my forehead getting wet from the scene... but then we had made it.
